Highland Village Welcomes Jingle – A Pop-Up Shop by Turkoyz Seasonal Christmas-themed boutique will offer a wide assortment of ornaments, candles, wreaths, furniture pieces and other holiday décor accessories. JACKSON, Miss., Highland Village is pleased to announce that Jingle – A Pop-Up Shop by Turkoyz will open for the holiday season on October 7th. The 2,340 square foot seasonal Christmas-themed boutique will be located in the northeast corner of Highland Village’s beautifully renovated courtyard. “Jingle will put you in the Christmas spirit the second you walk through the door,” said Turkoyz Co-Owner Fran Weeks. “The sights, sounds and smells will project a holiday vibe guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The store will have a ‘Santa’s workshop’ feel – as our employees will wear slippers with jingle bells and monogramed aprons.” Weeks said Jingle will offer a wide assortment of ornaments, candles, trees, wreaths and foliage, Santa and reindeer figurines, furniture pieces and other holiday décor accessories. “We will have hundreds of Christmas candles and thousands of ornaments with prices starting at $6.50. We will be the one-stop shop for ornament swap parties.” Jingle will also offer pre-packaged Christmas cookies made in Mississippi, and holiday motif pillows, doormats and table settings. There will even be a ‘pet section’ with Christmas-themed toys, collars and pillows. “If you can put a jingle bell on it, we’re selling it,” Weeks said. Highland Village Jingle Coins will also be available for purchase as gift certificates for use at any of the center’s retail locations. Alan Weeks, Turkoyz Co-Owner, said the idea for a Christmas-themed pop-up boutique stemmed from increased customer demand for holiday décor merchandise at Turkoyz At Home over the last several years. “Since opening the Home store at Highland Village four years ago, we have stocked a designated Christmas section during the holidays,” he said. “Last year, when we sold over 5,000 Christmas pieces, we knew there was an opportunity to take this to the next level as a natural progression of the Turkoyz brand.” Weeks said this is the 10th anniversary of the Turkoyz jewelry store at Highland Village – the company’s flagship location and the first of seven stores around Mississippi. “Highland Village has been instrumental in our success through the years,” he said. “Jingle is just one example of their passion for helping tenants succeed. From a collaborative standpoint, they’ve been working to help us bring this concept to life since day one.” “Fran and Alan Weeks are incredibly talented and have such a knack for curating a merchandise mix that is always relevant and in-demand,” said Masa Liles, general manager at Highland Village. “They have been dream tenants for more than a decade, and we are so excited about this next step in the relationship.” Ms. Liles said Highland Village wanted to create a pop-up store area specifically for holiday shopping that activates the center’s beautifully renovated courtyard. “This will be an inviting Christmas experience like no other,” she said. “The Mississippi Children’s Museum is opening a pop-up toy store that will be amazing; we will have photographers on-site taking formal indoor and outdoor Santa photos; and our Salvation Army Angel Tree will make it easy to fulfill an underprivileged child’s Christmas wish.” Ms. Liles said Highland Village will formally kick-off the season with its Holiday Open House on October 14th. Jingle store hours will be Monday through Saturday 10a – 6p and 12p – 5p Sunday. Upcoming Bellwether Events For more information, visit bellwetherchurch.org. Where is LeFleur East Exactly? HIGHLAND VILLAGE NEWS Highland Village Welcomes Upscale Nail Treatment and Personal Grooming Boutique The Nail Lounge to offer nail treatment and personal grooming services in chic, relaxing setting complete with full-service beer and wine menu JACKSON, Miss., Highland Village is excited to announce the opening of a unique, upscale nail treatment and personal grooming boutique to open early 2017. The Nail Lounge will offer a host of services in an ultra-chic, relaxing setting complete with a full-service beer and wine menu. Offerings will range from deluxe manicures and pedicures to pristine nail, cuticle and eyelash treatments to waxing services. The distinctive boutique’s 1,900 square foot open concept floor plan includes bar and bench height stations, where customers may enjoy some much needed pampering alone – or with a group of friends. The Nail Lounge will be located between Maison Weiss and Red Square near the north-facing end of the Highland Village property. “The Nail Lounge will be an upscale pampering experience like no other in this region, “ said Son and Jane Nguyen, the boutique’s owners. “Our inspiration for the concept stems from a trip to Miami, Florida, where we noticed the lengths personal grooming boutiques were willing to go in terms of delivering quality services in gorgeous settings, using only premium products. With The Nail Lounge, we are bringing that vibe to Mississippi, and we think customers are going to be blown away.” Originally from Denver, Colorado, Son and Jane moved to Jackson with their parents approximately 20 years ago. They estimate the boutique will employ between six and ten experienced grooming technicians. “The fact that Son and Jane, longtime Jackson residents, approached us first with this entirely unique and upscale concept speaks volumes for our reputation as one of Mississippi’s premier go-to destinations for ‘first-and-only’ retail locations,” said Masa Liles, Highland Village General Manager. “The Nail Lounge will be an ideal next-door neighbor, and we cannot wait for them to open their doors,” said Ken Szilasi, Maison Weiss President. “What could be better than a convenient shopping and pampering excursion? I feel certain our customers will love this new addition.” The Nail Lounge store hours will be 9a – 7p Monday – Saturday and 12p – 5p on Sunday. Both appointments and walk-ins will be accepted. Highland Village Welcomes Deep South Pops Popular provider of handcrafted ice pops, gourmet ice cream, coffee and craft beer to open second location in southeast corner of center’s recently renovated courtyard. JACKSON, Miss., Deep South Pops, a popular provider of handcrafted ice pops, gourmet ice cream, coffee and craft beer, is opening its second location in the southeast corner of Highland Village’s recently renovated courtyard in October. Since opening its first location in June 2015 at 1800 North State Street, Deep South Pops has evolved into a popular stop for loyal customers of all ages: business professionals wanting coffee in the mornings, college students needing a place to study or relax and visit, and elementary and high school students wanting an after-school treat. Deep South Pops’ Highland Village location will serve pops made at the North State Street location and feature the same menu, including up to 16 choices of ice pops in flavors such as Creole Cream Cheesecake, Grapefruit Rosemary and Watermelon Lime Mint, and gelato and sorbet manufactured by Sweet Magnolia Gelato Co. in Clarksdale. The menu will also include coffee roasted by Mississippi Coffee Co. in Flowood, European-style pastries from La Brioche in Jackson, and craft beers from throughout the Southeast. Deep South Pops will also offer nitro coffee — cold-brewed coffee that is infused with nitrogen and served on tap. Jake Franklin, who opened the original Deep South Pops with his wife Kristy, said Highland Village was selected as a second location because it is a high-traffic area during the day, including a built-in customer base of 500+ employees between retailers and offices on-site, and a different environment from the North State Street location, which is in a more residential area. “The opportunity to be in a retail setting and a location with free WiFi and easy access to a large courtyard made Highland Village a great fit for us,” said Franklin. “The courtyard is beautiful, and a perfect setting for relaxing with friends or enjoying live music and other family friendly events, such as bingo night, which we will host on a regular basis.” “We’re delighted to welcome Deep South Pops, as gourmet pops are the rage right now,” said Masa Liles, general manager at Highland Village. “For Highland Village, this is about providing the trendiest and highest demand shopping experience possible to our customers. Deep South Pops has a feverish following of loyal customers of all ages. There are days when they have sold more than 1,000 pops. We’re so excited to bring this locally-grown merchant and their trendy vibe to the center.” Ms. Liles said Deep South Pops will be the first of several pop-up merchants coming to Highland Village in time for the holiday shopping season. They have signed a lease through January 31, 2017, and will have the option to extend at that time. Deep South Pops store hours will be 7a – 9p seven days a week, with the schedule subject to adjustment as needed. OEC District purchased the space from Eastover Jackson, LLC, and terms of the deal were not disclosed. OEC principals Breck Hines and Ted Duckworth orchestrated the deal, and financing was provided by Origin Bank. Completed in 2015, One Eastover Center is home to the Baker Donelson law firm, Ross & Yerger insurance, and Cosmich Simmons & Brown law firm, and includes 115,000 square feet of office space on five floors, and an adjacent 400-space parking garage. It is located on the north end of The District at Eastover. “We are excited to bring One Eastover Center back into the ownership purview of The District at Eastover and our related ownership entities,” said Hines. “By doing so, we are able to ensure the long-term quality of operation and experience at One Eastover matches that of the entire development. The location and visibility of the building are unsurpassed in the Metro-Jackson marketplace, and as a result is nearly 100 percent leased by a great roster of tenants who have made long-term commitments to this building and The District at Eastover.” In addition to this acquisition, the developers and their affiliates recently opened a Residence Inn by Marriott at The District at Eastover. According to Dr. Kirk Jeffreys, Dr. Mark Kosko and Dr. Tina Sorey, summertime means more time spent outdoors – and exposure to bright sunlight may increase the risk of developing cataracts and growths on the eye, including cancer. Sunlight reflected off sand and water can cause photokeratitis, the condition responsible for snow blindness, so beach- and pool-goers take note. It’s important to start wearing proper eye protection at an early age to protect your eyes from years of ultraviolet (UV) exposure. UV radiation can damage the eye’s surface tissues as well as the cornea and lens, but According to a national Sun Safety Survey conducted by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, many people are unaware of these dangers. In fact, only about half of people who wear sunglasses say they check the UV rating before buying. The good news is that you can easily protect yourself. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends the following: • Wear sunglasses labeled “100% UV protection”: Use only glasses that block both UV-A and UV-B rays and that are labeled either UV400 or 100% UV protection. Choose wraparound styles so that the sun’s rays can’t enter from the side. If you wear UV-blocking contact lenses, you’ll still need sunglasses. • Wear a hat along with your sunglasses; broad-brimmed hats are best. • Remember the kids: It’s best to keep children out of direct sunlight during the middle of the day. Make sure they wear sunglasses and hats whenever they are in the sun. • Know that clouds don’t block UV light: The sun’s rays can pass through haze and clouds. Sun damage to the eyes can occur any time of year, not just in summer. • Be extra careful in UV-intense conditions: Sunlight is strongest mid-day to early afternoon, at higher altitudes, and when reflected off of water, ice or snow. By embracing these simple tips you and your family can enjoy the summer sun safely while protecting your vision.
